The Staircase
After some maintenance on the bikes, we headed into town to see the Staircase. This miraculous piece of woodwork is truly a sight to behold. Anyone with even an ounce of construction experience will just stand in awe when they see it. According to the sisters at the time (1878) the only tools the man had were a hammer, a square, and a saw. The workmanship was far beyond extraordinary, going to the miraculous. When he was finished, and they went to pay him he was nowhere to be found. Rather than spending a great deal of time describing this structure I suggest you go to the web and type in “the staircase” then click on the “Loretto Chapel” site and explore the site for yourself. Believe me you won’t be disappointed you did. After we left there, we headed out for Mesa, AZ. Spending the night in Socorro, NM.

Started the day by changing the oil and filter on all the bikes. Then on our way to the Staircase. If you are ever in Santa Fe this is a must. (For more info on this Google it.)
Now it is about 2 PM, time to get on our way to Mesa, AZ. We made it to Socorro by 7 PM; time to call it a day.

The boys started the day off with servicing the bikes again I got caught up on stuff for the web page and the like. Off to Santa Fe to see the Staircase that Jim wanted to see. Check Jim’s entry for this day. Stopped at a VLA and took photos. VLA is a large radio telescope.
